So this album leaked, so why not post a song on here? New Motion City Soundtrack.
Who doesn’t like Josh Ritter? The dude is kind of amazing. Listen to this older song of his, and you will think the same thing. As a matter of fact read up on him, and how he just one day decided to be a folk musician, and you will be even more amazed.
It’s been a while since I posted a hip hop song on here. This is Macklemore, he’s a white rapper from Seattle. A few of my buddies have been listening to him for a while now, and me being the elitist that I am, have pretty much ignored their call to do the same. I eventually came to my senses and gave it a listen. I haven’t stopped since. Macklemore makes well crafted and well thought hip hop songs. a Gambino/Macklemore tour would be, *cough cough* off the chain. (my hood card was immediately revoked after that)
Matt Skiba and the Sekrets. This album reinstated my faith in Mr. Skiba as the leader of Alkaline Trio. A lot of these songs sound like old school Alk3 records, and without the presence of Dan Andriano, and Derek Grant this album is very obviously Skiba’s baby. You can hear it in the lyrics, and the tones of the music. Not a perfect album, but damn good if you’re craving some new Alk3 songs that don’t sound like Damnesia.
Today…today, I’m hungover. My stomach is in shreds, and I earned it. For those reasons I’m going to listen to a bunch of songs by a band called Hot Water Music. They’re awesome, and hail from Florida. Kick Out The Jams.
Brandon Reilly plays in a band called Nightmare Of You. I got to see him play a bunch of these songs solo/acoustic about 6 or 7 months ago, and it was awesome. We had some tweeting (twatting?) between the two of us today, so I decided to rep for his band on here. Listen to them. Everyone.
(Also the lyrics, while kind of ridiculous at times, are kind of funny while maintaining honesty, and cleverness. That’s really tough to do, so crazy mad props to Brandon Reilly for this.)
The Alchemy Index EP’s by Thrice are so epic it’s disturbing. Also the lyrics to the last song on all 4 EP’s is written in iambic pentameter. What kind of band meeting was that? “Hey guy’s I wrote this song it’s in iambic pentameter…I like it so I’m going to end all of the EP’s like that, cool?”
- Child Of Dust
This song’s been in my head for days now. I can remember as a kid my mom listening to this album all of the time. Old school jam of the week.
- Go Your Own Way
Anthony Raneri from Bayside playing an Alkaline Trio song. And to think I thought today was going to suck.
It’s sad that Thursday broke up. In a conversation with my good friend and old bandmate the other day we talked about how we ripped them off all of the time when we were writing music together. Still one of my favorite bands and one of my favorite records, War All Of The Time.
It’s Monday.
- Head For The Hills
If you don’t like Ray Lamontagne…well geez you should probably reevaluate some things.
Here’s a newer band, they call themselves Sleigh Bells. Actually these dudes are gaining a good rep, and have been around for a couple of years now, but gaining notoriety takes time. Also the guitarist/ists for this band played in an awesome band called Poison The Well. That alone should make most “band geeks” want to listen.
- Born To Lose
Dan Andriano’s talent as a songwriter is so insurmountable (Whoa big word!) that it never ceases to amaze me. Listen to this song, and tell me it’s not awesome. I dare you.
-Smoke
There was a time when I’d update this blog about every other day. Now it’s gotten down to once a week. I like it better this way. How about some Elvis Costello? This guy’s songwriting ability is just out of this world. Truly one of my favorite musicians of all time.
